Top Grade Pacific Oysters (per dozen)
Pacific Oysters (Crassostrea gigas) are a native oyster of Japan. The species was deliberately introduced to Australian during the mid-1900s to provide a new form of commercial aquaculture in Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania.
One of the most attractive attributes of the Pacific Oyster for farmers is that it grows to a commercial size much faster than its native counterpart. Pacific Oysters can be ready to harvest in as little as 10 months, up to two years.
The Pacific Oyster is now cultivated in hundreds of oyster growing regions around the world and is the most widely farmed, edible oyster.
Serving suggestion: we recommend simply adding a squeeze of lemon and perhaps some black pepper, if you must. A little bread and butter on the side is an absolutely delicious combo. If you enjoy a sauce with your oysters, try adding either our Classic Mignonette or Japanese Ponzu sauce options.
Pacific oysters are also ideal for grilling. You can pop them on the BBQ unopened and then as they begin to sizzle, remove them and gently prise them open (they'll be hot) and simply add a splash of our Japanese Ponzu sauce.
Or try them under the grill with some of our delicious, pre-prepared grill toppings: KIlpatrick, Mornay, Thai-style or Herb butter with Parmesan. All toppings are freshly made to order. (Grill toppings launching 1 June.)
Available by the dozen, washed and ready to shuck.
